Richard Alwyn is a regular Wingspan collaborator, most recently filming and directing two highly-acclaimed trilogies for BBC Four - Catholics and Cathedrals.
Richard began work at the BBC as a Production Trainee before becoming part of the team of directors in the 1990s that made Modern Times, the BBC’s seminal series of ‘authored’ documentaries. His films have been nominated for BAFTA, RTS and Grierson awards and The Beslan Siege won Europe's most prestigious documentary award, the Prix Italia. He has also directed fiction, written screenplays, and co-wrote the story for the Rwandan genocide feature film, Shooting Dogs, starring John Hurt.
Richard is a Senior Tutor on the MA in Ethnographic and Documentary Film at University College London.
