'Our Gay Wedding - The Musical' WINS the Prix Italia for TV Performing Arts

24 September 2015 - 'Our Gay Wedding - The Musical' won the TV Performing Arts prize - at the Prix Italia. Founded in 1948, this is one of oldest and most prestigious international television awards. 87 public and private radio and television organizations, representing 46 countries from the five continents, constitute the community of the Prix Italia held in September every year.

Benjamin Till and Nathan Taylor, the Grooms who wrote and staged their entire wedding, were in beautiful Turin to accept the award.

Giving the award, the chair of the jury gave the following citation:

“This is a new form of reality TV and a new form of musical, which turns even the news into art. It marked a very special day for England and Wales, as well as for the two grooms: the day that same sex marriage became legal. The wedding couple themselves wrote and performed the music, joined by their families, friends and a host of celebrities who appear in a surprising way. The program is topical, warm and witty, confounding expectations. It is campaigning yet romantic, a hymn of praise to love. Bold, inventive and original TV.”
